CSARN Northwest Conference brings together leading business protection and crisis management speakers to share their lessons from the world of the

CSARN Northwest Conference is launching its first public regional conference at the historic Midland Hotel in Manchester. The Northwest supports almost 250,000 businesses and is ideally suited to attract even more international business. But for a sustainable economy it is mission critical organisations such as CSARN and the Manchester Business Continuity Forum bring together business, police and government to work in a resilient partnership.

CSARN is a not-for-profit business membership organisation dedicated to promote business security, continuity and staff safety in the North West and across the UK’s many diverse commercial zones. Through briefing events, mentoring, training and advice, our goal is to develop, enhance and support and facilitate safe business environments.

Working to these goals, CSARN will synergise with:

  • The business community and major employers
  • Police forces and strategic place-shapers
  • Local authorities, regional agencies and national Government departments
  • Key local, regional and national stakeholders, including: Faith groups; charities; and sector experts
  • Overseas officials and industry experts, to build and nurture inter-city best practice in security, resilience and continuity

Peter Fahy Peter Fahy / Chief Constable Greater Manchester Police

Peter Fahy grew up in East London and joined the police in 1981. Prior to taking up his post with GMP on 1st September 2008, he worked in Surrey, Hertfordshire and West Midlands and served for five years as Chief Constable of Cheshire. He has had wide experience of policing inner city and rural areas and has held command positions at Coventry, Smethwick and Solihull. Throughout his career as a chief officer he has been a strong advocate of police reform and innovation. He has experience of leading murder investigations and major complaint enquiries.

Bob Forsyth / Managing Director of Total Security Management, MITIE

Bob has worked in the security industry for over fifteen years; gaining experience from fundamental operational roles, he has become a key figure amongst his peers. A proven expert in business growth and innovation, Bob is also an excellent relationship builder; personally managing top accounts within MITIE’s security business

Bob joined MITIE in 2004 as Managing Director for MITIE Southwest which was a MITIE start up business and went on to become MD of the South region for MITIE after the merger with Initial.

In 2007, Bob became Managing Director of Total Security Management at MITIE. During which time he set up a stand alone Response business and managed the sales growth of a fully integrated service provision. In December 2009 he was announced as MD designate for the entire Security Business.

Dr Peter Ryan Dr Peter Ryan / Official Security Advisor for the International Olympic Committee

Peter Ryan is the security adviser to the International Olympic Committee and was the principal security advisor for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.  He has recently been providing security advice for the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar and other national security projects in the Middle East.

Prior to this appointment he was the Chief of Police (Commissioner) of New South Wales, Australia’s largest police force of 18,000 personnel.  Based in Sydney, he was the overall commander for the security operation of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Head of the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO)

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Phillips is the Head of the National Counter Terrorism Security Office. This is a team of officers responsible for protecting the United Kingdom's hazardous sites and dangerous substances. The unit aims to make the terrorist acquisition of weapons more difficult. The team have the lead role in counter terrorism protection of crowded places and soft targets including stadiums, shopping centres, visitor attractions and licensed premises. They work alongside the Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure.

Chris Phillips Jon Clements / Crime Correspondent, the Daily Mirror

Jon was taken on by the Daily Mirror ten years ago as a graduate trainee and has enjoyed a varied career as a tabloid newspaper journalist.
He has been a general news reporter, with assignments including undercover investigations of the far right, and a duty news editor, managing coverage of events such as the 2004 Tsunami and the July 7 bombings.
Jon spent 18 months as showbiz editor in charge of the Mirror’s celebrity, television, music, film and Hollywood coverage and supervised the award-winning 3am girls column.
In 2006, he became a foreign correspondent and has reported from Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Israel.
For the last three years, Jon has covered crime, specialising in forensics, terrorism and the policing of rape.

Vicky Rosin Vicky Rosin MBE / Strategic Director Neighbourhood Services, Manchester City Council

From September 2008 as Assistant Chief Executive Vicky took responsibility for a new department – Neighbourhood Strategy and Delivery and in May 2009 she was appointed as the Strategic Director of Neighbourhood Services. In June 2009 Vicky was awarded an MBE for her services to Local Government. 

Vicky Rosin has worked in local government for over thirty years, both in service departments and in central policy departments.

An honours graduate in History and Politics, her early work experiences were gained in Social Work, working with children.  More recently she worked in the Education Service as Head of the Early Years and Play Department.

Justin Crump Justin Crump / Stirling Assynt International Group

Justin Crump has headed up Stirling Assynt’s Terrorism and Country Risk division since the end of 2008. He began his career as a front-office corporate financier in a major US investment bank but left after several years, having been called up to serve as a full time officer with the British Army. He participated in operations in the Former Yugoslavia, Iraq and Afghanistan before eventually moving back to the private sector, consulting for a Foreign Office department. He remains an active reservist, serving in the Yeomanry. Justin is intimately familiar with all the areas covered by the Assynt team, but particularly focuses on al-Qaeda’s tactics and strategy.

Paul Moxness Paul Moxness / Vice President, Corporate Safety and Security Rezidor

Paul Moxness has established the corporate, regional and hotel safety and security programme, based on the “TRIC=S” formula* for Rezidor and its brands across Europe, Middle East and Africa. Paul’s current position includes overseeing, reviewing and revising safety and security guidelines, crisis management and response programmes, as well as strategic planning and support to hotels operating within The Rezidor Hotel Group on all events and issues pertaining to safety and security.

Simon Bannaghan Simon Bannaghan / Business Continuity Manager The co-operative

Simon Bannaghan has worked in Business Continuity for over 12 years, initially in pharmaceuticals then moving in to finance and for the last 3 years has been responsible for the delivery of Business Continuity for the various Co-operative retail trading business and corporate functions.  His experience is with large organisations, responsible for ensuring their recovery strategies support critical infrastructure and the people needed to maintain business following an incident.  Through the work of him and his team, he has been able to demonstrate significant enhancements in the delivery of BC.  A keen supporter of end-to-end Business Continuity he is mentoring as part of MBCFs Buddy Scheme and sits on the committee of the Retail BC Association.

David Corrie / Head of BT Civil Resilience and 2012 Olympic Security

David has worked for BT through all of its transformations from the GPO, and has held a number of senior positions during this time. These include Director of Studies for BT’s world recognised Master’s Programme, Head of Strategy and Business Planning, Head of Client relationships (to some of the most influential clients with the UK), and Head of BT’s Obligations. He is presently Head of BT’s Global Civil Resilience Unit, which covers BT’s obligations under the Civil Contingency Act and BT’s response to all high levels of incident from cable failure to International Disaster relief. In addition, BT is a tier one partner for the 2012 Olympics and David has responsible for the security aspects of this partnership. He graduated with a degree in electronic engineering, and is a Chartered Engineer, and Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development. He has completed post graduate studies at the University of California, and Templeton College Oxford. David has written a number of papers for international conferences, and is the winner of the FITCE “best paper” award, for his paper on “zero cost development”. In his present role he has lead a BT Tsunami international relief team to Indonesia, was the Utilities Gold commander at Police Gold during the London Bombings, and the BT Gold commander for BT’s response to the South Asia Earthquake.

Brett Lovegrove Brett Lovegrove / Director, CSARN and Former Head of Counter Terrorism
City of London Police

Brett Lovegrove retired in 2008 as Head of Counter Terrorism in the City of London Police after 30 years service, 25 years of which were spent at strategic level in the Metropolitan Police.  As Head of Counter Terrorism, he Chaired the national committee for crowded places in 2005/2006 with a membership that included the security services, military representatives, national policing and business representatives, HOSDB, Cabinet Office and ACPO in order to establish practical resilience solutions.  Brett led on the London, national and international rollout of Project Griffin (a police/security professional initiative to identify hostile reconnaissance in crowded places) and was frequently asked to advise international organisations and governments including the US Congress, the European Government in The Hague and the Danish Parliament.
