Level 3 – Terrorism Awareness and Management course (Online

Training workforces to help prevent and responding to violent extremism, including terrorism, has become a core priority for many responsible business organisations.

The Global Terrorism Index for 2024 shows that deaths caused by terrorism rose by 22% to 8,352, the largest fatality number since 2017. 

Supported by the UK’s leading terrorism awareness platform, TINYg, CSARN Academy has now developed a new counter-terrorism training package, suitable for all security operators and others wishing to gain a basic to intermediate level of knowledge about countering terrorism.

This course is taught at a non-academic training level aligned to the UK RQF Ofqual equivalent Level 3 and is certified by CSARN. 

Spread across 7.5 hours the course tutorials covers five mini-modules (1.5 hours each):

  • Risk identification and conducting risk assessments
  • Laws & Regulations covering CT across people, facilities and IT systems (including CCTV) – including ‘Martyn’s Law’ for UK learners
  • Case studies in domestic and international terrorism – security failures examined
  • Key Skills and HR competencies required for individuals, teams and organisations
  • Risk Management and Resilience – embedding and reinforcing security cultures, testing & rehearsal

Assessment: Risk Management report (1,000 words) and 1 hour multiple choice quiz

Tutor: Richard Bingley – highly experienced security practitioner, trainer and author of books ‘Combatting Cyber Terrorism’ book (2024) and ‘Terrorism; Just the Facts (2003).

Format: Online and self-paced. Access to course videos, subject matter journals, reports and optional book reading lists. Access to course portal for one year. 

Progression routes: Progress onto a Level 4 security or cyber security diploma or our Level 5 Terrorism Awareness and Management menu of courses 

Attendees: Security Operators, HR officers and managers, Health and Safety executives.
